In a tough season opener, the East Texas A&M University football team faced a formidable challenge against the No. 16-ranked SMU Mustangs, suffering a 42-13 defeat at Gerald R. Ford Stadium. Early fireworks lit up the night when Kevin Jennings connected with Romello Brinson for a stunning 63-yard touchdown on just the third play. The Mustangs showcased their dominance with two interceptions returned for touchdowns by Kilgore Alexander and Ahmaad Moses. Despite a valiant effort from the Lions, with Eric Rodriguez finding the end zone for their only score, they fell to 0-1 for the third consecutive year, having opened against tough FBS competition.The Lions are set to encounter their second consecutive ACC rival as they travel to Florida State for an 11 a.m. central kickoff, which will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
